A hunt with real purpose — helping feed children at local schools and orphanages in our village.
How It Started
Our Meat for the Poor program was founded by Gordon several years ago in response to the dire lack of quality food available to children at local schools and orphanages in the village. To help provide these children with much-needed nourishment, Gordon began offering a unique hunting experience to visitors.
Bow hunters are invited to take part in "cull hunts," harvesting cows and ewes while waiting for larger trophy animals. As part of the program, hunters donate the meat from their cull hunts directly to children in the village.
The Impact
The response has been overwhelmingly positive, from hunters and children alike. Upon arriving in the village, hunters are often greeted with singing and dancing from the grateful kids. To date, our Meat for the Poor program has provided nourishing meals to over 400 children in the village.
Who Can Take Part
Due to the program's success, we now offer it to rifle hunters as well as bow hunters, and have welcomed several ladies participating in their first African hunt in order to contribute to this cause. Observers on safari often choose to take part as a one-time experience too. Meat for the Poor has become an integral part of our operation, and continues to make a real difference to the children in our village.
